Quant Investment Intern at Occam Advisors

Portland, Oregon · Impact-first investing

I recently joined Occam Advisors, a Portland, Oregon consulting firm, as a Quant Investment intern. Occam helps foundations and family offices build impact-first investing programs on a non-discretionary, non-custodial basis: the firm sources, researches, and recommends investments, while each client's committee decides and handles execution in-house. I work on the quantitative research behind those recommendations. It's the applied quant work I'd been building toward through research and side projects.

Air quality forecasting at IIM Indore

Presented to Indore Municipal Corporation

Five years of daily air-quality readings for the Indore Municipal Corporation: gaps, shifting seasonality, and a lot riding on getting it right. I cleaned and modeled the data in Python with ARIMA, tested the forecasts honestly, and presented to city officials. The recommendations that came out of it helped bring the local AQI from 80 to 50.

Economics research at USF

Research Assistant

I'm building a longitudinal dataset that spans decades: OCR on old records, matching entities across years, geocoding, and documenting every decision so the work can be reproduced. It's the unglamorous data engineering a quant team runs on.

Housing price predictor

Data Science Association · team project

We scraped live housing data and built forecasting models around one question: is now a good time to buy? Noisy inputs, weak signals, and people who actually wanted an answer.

2023 – Present

Forbes Student Research

Founder

I started this because serious research shouldn't cost a student $10K. With a 40-person volunteer team we've reviewed more than 1,000 applications and placed 125 students, every one of whom got into at least one Ivy. Running it taught me more about building systems than any class did.

Math & AI research papers

ResearchGate

Two published papers, one on pattern recognition and one on rethinking math education ("Beyond the Abacus"). Early work in classification and validation that set up the forecasting I do now.

April 2026 ASA DataFest · Chico State Best Insight

Best Insight — DataFest 2026

My team, the 49ers, won the Best Insight award at ASA DataFest 2026, hosted at California State University, Chico. Over a 48-hour sprint on a surprise healthcare dataset, the judges gave us the award for the clearest, most useful read on what the data was actually saying.
